Avenged Sevenfold, von Fans A7X abgekürzt, ist seit Jahren ein fester Bestandteil der Heavy Metal-Szene. Die satten Gitarrenriffs von "Hail To The King" im Titelstück des gleichnamigen Albums sind eine Art Markenzeichen der Kalifornier. Das Album erschien 2013 tatsächlich zuerst in Deutschland; in den USA kam es erst vier Tage später heraus.

Ich denke, jeder von uns hat ein paar Lieder, die uns schon ewig begleiten. Die man nicht mitsummt, sondern deren Text man kennt und denkt "Genau so ist es!".

Ein Titel, auf den das bei mir absolut zutrifft, ist "Telegraph Road" von den Dire Straits. Natürlich, weil die Jungs um Mark Knopfler sehr detailverliebte Musik machen und man eigentlich nur mit Kopfhörern den Songs gerecht wird -so auch bei diesem Titel.

Zum anderen aber, weil es die Geschichte der Menschheit erzählt, mit all ihren Problemen.

Ein Mann geht 30 Meilen mit einem Rucksack in die Wildnis, um sich fernab der anderen ein Heim zu errichten, den Boden zu bewirtschaften und für den Winter vorzusorgen. Dann aber kommen Reisende, die nie weiter und nie zurück ziehen.

Es entstehen Kirchen, es gibt Anwälte, Eisenbahnen...und aus dem staubigen Pfad wird die "Telegraph Road". Es kommen Lastzüge und Fabriken werden errichtet. Als die Rezension hereinbricht, entstehen Arbeitslosigkeit und Krieg. Und nur die Vögel auf den Telegrafenleitungen können noch fort ziehen...

Zuletzt stellt man verbittert fest, dass auch die Liebe des Lebens erkaltet ist...und möchte einfach nicht mehr hier sein, wo Schilder "Entschuldigung, wir haben geschlossen" an allen Türen hängen und Verzweiflung in Flammen aufgeht...

Nach ein paar eher rockigen Stücken möchte ich euch heute etwas Folk/Bluegrass anspielen. Ruth Moody kennt ihr vielleicht noch aus meinem letztjährigen Tipp "Whereever I Go", den sie mit Mark Knopfler sang. Die Australierin ist aber als Solokünstlerin und mit ihrer Band The Wailin' Jennys unterwegs.

Mit "One Desire" stelle ich euch mal wieder eine klassische Rockband vor, zumindest vom Sound der Achtziger her. Das Debütalbum der rockenden Finnen erschien nämlich tatsächlich vor gerade einmal drei Jahren, und "Hurt" ist auch der Titelsong ihres Albums gewesen.

P!nk vorzustellen spare ich mir; ich glaube, nach zwanzig Jahren auf der Bühne muss man keine Worte mehr über ihre Erfolge verlieren. Das Stück "The One That Got Away" von 2006 gehört aber eher zu ihren unbekannten Stücken, und das möchte ich heute ändern. Sie spricht von einem "Lagerfeuer-Song" und tatsächlich reicht eine Gitarre als Begleitung völlig aus. Zeit, sich mal auf den Gesang zu konzentrieren, denn der hat es wahrlich in sich...

Ach...und es ist keine Coverversion des Katy-Perry-Titels...der kam erst vier Jahre danach heraus und hatte lediglich den gleichen Namen.

"Wanderin" hat mich neulich auf ein tolles Instrument, das Roli Seaboard, aufmerksam gemacht. Neugierig geworden, habe ich allerhand Videos damit angeschaut und stieß dabei auf Neon Vines. Die Multi-Instrumentalistin und Produzentin aus Austin, Texas begeistert mich seitdem mit ihren Stücken und der Tatsache, dass sie all das mit genau zwei Händen und einer Stimme zustande bringt. Schon, weil wir Männer bekanntlich nicht einmal zwei Dinge gleichzeitig machen können

Auch wenn ich euch nur dieses eine Stück verlinke, lege ich euch auch den Rest ihrer Musik ans Herz, denn in ihren Videos gibt es unendlich viele Details zu entdecken. Wo Poughkeepsie liegt, hätte ich mich nie gefragt, wäre es nicht die Heimatstadt von "Against The Current". Die 2011 gegründete Band um Sängerin "Chrissy" Constanza und Sänger Dan Gow war schon 2018 auf Europatournee und ihr Cover des Stückes "Uptown Funk" (im Original von Mark Ronson) wäre allein ein Grund gewesen, ein Ticket zu kaufen. Verpasst! Deswegen hole ich euch "Against The Current" stattdessen auf das Handy oder, besser, euren riesigen Bildschirm. Und damit ihr noch etwas lernt dabei: Poughkeepsie liegt im US-Staat New York, hat rund 76.000 Einwohner und der Name bedeutet so viel wie "Lager am Fluss" :-)

In einer Zeit, in der sich alle mit schlechten Nachrichten überbieten, sollte man vielleicht mal ein bisschen positiver denken. Hilfestellung dabei leistet EMMA6, die ehemalige Vorband von WirSindHelden. Emma war übrigens eine schottische Austauschschülerin und als Bond-Fans begeistern sich die Bandmitglieder für den britischen Geheimdienst MI-6...soviel zum Bandnamen.

Überwintern ist ganz frisch erschienen und macht auf schöne Art Mut für das, was vor uns liegt.
